How long does a woman’s orgasm typically last?

According to the U’s Bedsider Club, it’s usually 23 seconds. A man’s is typically 6 seconds. These questions and more were answered at Bedsider’s “Sex Trivia” as a way to educate students on the needs and methods of safe sex.

Kelsey Kachnik, club president and a senior in biomedical engineering, said she has a passion for informing the public.

“Schools in Utah have lower comprehensive sexual education programs than other states which leads to higher STDs, a higher risk of teen and unwanted pregnancy and more sexual partners,” Kachnik said.

The Sex Trivia game was set up by placing everyone into five groups with team names like Discovery Channel and Coitus. Players were asked a series of questions that could involve true or false, multiple choice, movie quotes or drawing “sexamples.”

Brooke Diston, a sophomore in social work, said going to these types of events makes sex a less taboo topic.

“Media is funny about sex but not educational. School tends to be informative but awkward about it,” Diston said. “Those who came … want to be educated and are interested in the topic but a lot of our own expertise comes from personal experience.”

Being able to talk about sex was Kachnik’s main goal.

“If you can’t talk about having sex, you shouldn’t be having sex,” she said.

Brittany Lo, a senior in nursing, said she finds comfort in being able to have a place to talk about sex and sex safety.

“Anything awkward becomes normal and is implemented into conversations and it feels normal,” Lo said.

This was the last scheduled event for Bedsider this year but Kachnik encourages students to visit the club’s Facebook page for updates on what they’ll be doing or how to get involved.
