Looking back at the best of 90s television

Every year, new TV shows debut on our television screens. Still, there is nothing like the past. 90s TV shows found ways to relate to their audiences and continue to stay popular even past their series finales.

Here are some of those 90s TV shows that have remained unforgettable.

“Friends”

Keeping a show running for one season is tough but to go 10 can be impossible. Yet “Friends” was able to do it and still had fans begging for more. Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Joey and Phoebe gave people characters to relate to.

We’ve probably used the pick-up line, “How you doin’?” once or twice. We’ve sung a couple verses of “Smelly Cat” without realizing. We may have even used the “We were on a break” excuse. There are times when only a “Friends” quote can perfectly describe the situation you’re in.

This show brought happiness, tears and a whole lot of laughter.

“Saved by the Bell”

“Saved by the Bell” was “Friends” for teenagers. You had your six friends: three guys and three girls. All of them had completely different personalities. Some were popular. Some just wanted to fit in. Some were jocks. Some were desperate. You had the couple that you always wanted to work out and you got emotional when they went through the break-up stages. Though each character was different, they came together to create an inseparable friendship.

This was the show every 90s teenager rushed home to watch after school. It set a standard for teenage TV shows to come and continues to be a favorite.

“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

“In West Philadelphia, born and raised…”

Chances are you’re able to finish this song without even knowing you had it memorized. “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” launched Will Smith’s acting career, and his role as the titular Fresh Prince played a pivotal role in his popularity. This show was tight. This show was fly. We’ll just say it — this show was fresh.

Will’s character brought comedy, style and emotion. The other characters, like Carlton, Uncle Phil, Aunt Viv, Hilary and Ashley, did their part to help this show gain its popularity.

If you haven’t attempted the “Carlton Dance,” you’ve at least heard of it.

“Boy Meets World”

“Boy Meets World” was a show that you could grow up with, and the 90s kids did. Along with Cory, they survived their middle school days, they endured high school and they made their way through college. This show followed the path children take as they make their way into adulthood.

Now, not only can you watch reruns of “Boy Meets World,” but you can also see what Cory and Topanga’s children are doing in the new series, “Girl Meets World.”

“Seinfeld”

While the teenagers had “Saved by the Bell,” “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “Boy Meets World,” the adults had “Seinfeld.” Many, if not all, of “Seinfeld’s” plotlines were interpreted from actual experiences of the creators, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David.

With Seinfeld starring as the main character, this show was filled with laughter, quick catchphrases and crazy situations. It was kept mainly superficial, only to supply pure comedy to fans.

Running nine seasons, this show kept laughter until the very end.

“Full House”

In the mix of all the teenage and adult television shows, “Full House” was a show for the whole family. There was comedy along with deep messages that could help many families understand how to handle their issues.

Each character brought something to the show. Joey made us laugh. Uncle Jesse made us swoon. Danny and the girls taught us the importance of love and family. This show still has something for the whole family to enjoy.

Though these shows are long over on the airwaves, they can still find their way into the hearts of TV watchers.
