Police Investigate Alleged Rape at Dorms

Police+Investigate+Alleged+Rape+at+Dorms

U Police are investigating an alleged rape at the university dorms.

The incident occurred sometime between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. Because the case is still under active investigation, police would not release information on the specific dorm building in which the sexual assault occurred. The address listed on the agency’s online crime log for the case, 151 Connor Road, places the incident closest to Chapel Glen 804, though that area on upper campus is located near several dorms.

The victim, a female who is not a student at the U, reported the assault to U Police on Monday. Sgt. Garth Smith said the gender of the perpetrator is “not clear,” but would not elaborate further. The age of both parties is also unknown.

Smith said the dorm room where the incident occurred belonged to neither the victim nor the alleged offender, but could not say if either knew the person who lives there. Police are also unsure how long the investigation will take.

“It just depends on the investigative unit and how quickly they can get people to investigate, interview and things like that,” Smith said.

The Daily Utah Chronicle will update this story when more information is available.
