Do you enjoy discounts? Of course you do — you’re in college.

While you might think it’s only possible to get deals when stores offer their own sales, many national and local businesses offer discounts simply for showing your student ID.

Software and Technology

Most students know that they can get a free Amazon Prime account for six months when they sign up and 50 percent off after that, but many might not know the Internet is littered with deals on software and tech. For example, students can get five percent off most purchases and can get half-off a Spotify subscription. If you’re looking for a cheap way to send all of the things you now have the money to buy because you’re using discounts, FedEx also offers 20 percent off shipping.

If you’re looking for something around the price of nothing, U students get all of Microsoft Home Office and the entire Adobe Creative Cloud package for free at software.utah.edu.

Food

Is there anything better than not paying full price for food? Probably not. Burger King, McDonald’s, Subway and Arby’s all offer 10 percent off when you flash your U Card. Depending on the Pizza Hut store, students can get 10 to 20 percent off, and Red Robin offers a discount of 15 percent.

Other chain restaurants offer lesser deals. Costa Vida lets students have the daily special any day of the week for $6.99. Chipotle and Chick-fil-A both offer a free drink with any purchase.

Clothing

No disrespect to the DI, but sometimes you do want clothes in mint condition when you purchase them. Unfortunately, most articles of clothing cost more than they should. Luckily, some clothing chains understand and offer a chance for poor, struggling college students to look as amazing as can be.

H&M, select JCrew and Banana Republic branches, and online Levis stores offer 15 percent off. Goodwill and Urban Outfitters (on certain days) offer a discount of 10 percent.

Random Discounts

Of course, there’s the odd chance you might need something that’s not technology, clothes and food. In that case, students can join Sam’s Club for $40 (and get a $15 gift card) and get $10 or 10 percent off services at Jiffy Lube.

For all of your textbook needs, Barnes and Nobles offers some of the best discounts on new, used and rental books. And you can get some discounts at the Bookstore when you show your UCard at checkout.
