Utah Symphony performs with Cirque Musical for a Holiday Spectacular!

Cirque Musica, a renowned and world famous acrobatic company is performing with the Utah Symphony in three spectacular holiday performances this weekend, Dec. 9 & 10.

Playing to both sound and sight, “Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular” is a thrilling way to combine high-end acrobatics with the holiday spirit. Timing their performance with precision to the live orchestra, Cirque Musica creates an exhilarating environment combining multiple facets of art into a single act.

Produced by TGI Productions, Cirque Musica is a traveling acrobatic company–think Cirque du Soleil–that performs with various regional orchestras throughout the world. The company sets their routine to specific music in conjunction with their accompanying athlete-performers and then distributes their sets to various orchestras who practice conforming to Cirque Musica’s acrobatic performances.

Cirque Musica has already graced the stages of Tennessee, Texas, Alaska, New York and Las Vegas this holiday season alone to perform this show.

The upcoming concert with the Utah Symphony will feature guest violinist Veronica Gan and will be conducted by Bob Bernhardt. The show will feature holiday classics that promise to be largely recognizable within the standard Christmas repertoire, in addition to amazing acrobats, aerialists, and comedy.

By implementing familiar and cherished holiday music to a fast paced and live show, Cirque Musica has created a name and reputation for themselves around the world. “The act is reminiscent of traditional circus pieces and is even as modern as floor gymnast routines within the Olympics,” said Symphony conductor Bernhardt. “It is something all can be entertained with and appreciate.”

Unlike typical symphony performances, spontaneous applause is allowed within this concert. “You get to express yourself as an audience member throughout the performance as particular acts thrill you,” said Bernhardt. As gravity defying movies and phenomenal athletic feats are accomplished, you’ll be perched on the edge of your seat and are welcome to react with excitement upon safe completion of the athlete’s intended act.

“The combined orchestral music with some of the finest athletes is what sets this show apart,” said Bernhardt.

A wonderful opportunity for students to experience the symphony, appreciate an engaging and riveting show, and take an exciting break from studies and finals; “Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular” is a traveling and unique performance you won’t want to miss.

“Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular” with the Utah Symphony will be playing this weekend, Dec. 9-10, at Abravanel Hall. You can obtain tickets online, beginning at $21.
