Deer Tick: A Unique Must-See Performance

Deer Tick is coming to Salt Lake City on Oct. 31 at Urban Lounge. On their tour “Twice is Nice: An Evening with Deer Tick,” the band will be performing songs from their two latest releases, “Deer Tick Vol. 1” and “Deer Tick Vol. 2”.

Deer Tick began as a duo called “My Other Face” in 2004. Since that time, the band has grown by two members and released a total of seven albums. It is credited on Spotify with being a highly influential and talented band on par with Modest Mouse and Bright Eyes. Deer Tick synthesizes folk and garage components alongside striking lyrics that are equally full of humor and angst, giving this band an authentic sound and soul that is yearned for by fans of multiple music genres.

It has been four years since the last album, “Negativity,” was released. Since then, fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for the band to come together once again. Lead singer John McCauley, stated in an All Eyes Media memo that the band did not “break up” but found themselves just taking some time off. McCauley and the other band members, Ian O’Neil (guitarist), Christopher Ryan (bassist) and Dennis Ryan (drummer) spent the last four years doing individual projects or investing time in their personal lives. After coming together for the after-party shows of the Newport Folk Festival, one thing led to another and “Deer Tick Vol. 1” and “Vol. 2” were born.

“Deer Tick Vol. 1” and “Deer Tick Vol. 2” were released last month together with a 1-2 punch knockout for fans. These two albums feature the band’s distinct sounds. “Vol. 1” focuses on country-folk aspects while “Vol. 2” demonstrates more of the band’s punk elements. Due to the differences in style and sound of both albums, the band’s performance is uniquely constructed and will be divided into two sets, electric and acoustic. Both sets will be introduced by a comedian with an intermission in-between. Deer Tick’s performance is an exceptional one that offers rare, intimate experience between the band and audience, making this show a must-see event for all.

“Deer Tick” will be performing at Urban Lounge (241 South 500 East) on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $23 in advance and $25 day of. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.theurbanloungeslc.com/event/1497286-twice-is-nice-evening-deer-salt-lake-city/This show is 21+.
