Wind Ensemble: Maslanka Symphony 10

Join the 60 member wind ensemble consisting of undergraduate and graduate percussion players as they perform the world premiere of David Maslanka’s final symphony. A well-known composer, Maslanka passed away before he was able to complete the piece. His son finished the work and is now set to bring his father’s dream to life. Don’t miss the chance to hear the farewell piece on Tuesday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Make sure to bring your U card to get free admission.

Service Celebration

Dedicated in 1987 by Chase Peterson, president of the University of Utah, the Bennion Center is well-known for its community service. More than 8,500 Bennion Center volunteers donate a combined total of more than 175,000 hours of service to the community each year. The Bennion Center fosters lifelong service and civic participation by engaging the university with the greater community. This year, the center is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Join it in celebration at the Crimson Commons Game Area on Wednesday, April 4, from 5-7 p.m. There will be food and games, and admission is free.

An Evening with Stanley Nelson

Join Stanley Nelson, Emmy-winner member of the Academy of Motion Picture Art & Sciences and director of 13 documentary features, for an introductory lecture and screening of Freedom Riders, followed by a Q&A session. Nelson, who has a BFA in film from the City College of New York, has spent his entire career speaking for and on behalf of filmmakers of color. He has co-founded a documentary production company named Firelight Films, and he has been recognized through multiple industry awards for his documentary work. “Freedom Writers” was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
