The Hinckley Institute of Politics will kick off their “Pizza and Politics” forums on Tuesday.
At the kick-off forum of the year, the institute will host Arthur Brooks for an event titled “The Conservative Heart; How to Build a Fairer, Happier and More Prosperous America.” Brooks, an author and social scientist, will talk at noon in the main caucus room.
Associate director Jayne Nelson said the forums, which include free pizza for attendees, are meant to to encourage students to learn about current events.
“We really just want to engage students in the world around them to inform them of what’s going on,” she said. “Politics affect everyone.”
Molly Wheeler, administrative program coordinator at the Institute, said the forums vary in topics, from sports to entrepreneurship to political debates.
“They’re never about the same things,” she said. “They’re something for everyone to go out and expand your horizons.”
The “Pizza and Politics” events were previously called “Books and Banter” or “Coffee and Politics” when they started three years ago. Past forums can be viewed online at the institute’s website: www.hinckley.utah.edu/forum-video-archive.
