Two U Men’s Tennis Players Go to Ariz St

Two Utah men’s tennis players will accompany coach F.D. Robbins to the Arizona State Collegiate Invitational Oct. 19 in Tempe, Ariz.

Seniors Nicholas Yip and Corrie Scheepers will participate in the tournament, which starts today and will continue through Sunday.

Last year, Yip went 16-11 overall, including an 11-9 dual meet singles record. In the opening round of this tournament, Yip drew Arizona State?s Olivier Charroin.

Scheepers, named the team MVP for 2001, compiled a 17 8 record (14-6 dual record in singles) after transferring from Weber State. In addition, the South Africa native collected a 12-3 overall record in doubles last year with partner Daniel Carlsson. Scheepers will take on Pim Van Mele, also from Arizona State.

The Utah representatives will compete against individuals from Arizona State, Rice, Northern Arizona, Arizona and Arkansas.

As a team, the Utes won?t compete again until Jan. 6 when the Utah State Aggies visit the Eccles Tennis Center.
