Women Swim to First Win of the Season

The women’s swimming and diving team made Ute history by defeating UNLV for the first time ever 117-114. It was also their first win of the season. The men are still winless as they fell to the Rebels 149.5-89.5.

Once again, sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute led the Ute women. She won two individual events. She won the 50-meter freestyle at 24.16 seconds and also took top honors in 100-meter freestyle, with a time of 51.29. It marked the second straight week she has won the 50-meter freestyle, and it was her fourth straight 100-meter first- place time.

“The women overcame a huge hurdle with this win, and we will look to improve on this success,” said head coach Mike Litzinger.

Evan Castro and David Johnson took first place in their respective events for the men.

“Our teams did a tremendous job,” said Litzinger. “Our men continue to improve each meet and fought hard against UNLV.”
