Split Squad Track Team Heads to San Diego, Logan

After a very impressive meet at Provo, in which the U track and field team flexed their muscles to place well in many events, the team will split up for weekend competition.

The women’s team heads to San Diego, while the men travel to Logan to compete in the Utah State Invitational.

Both teams compete on Saturday, and each will try to continue its successful string of great finishes.

Last week, Utah had amazing performances from runners such as Teren Jameson, who competed in his first tournament since running the cross country championships.

Speaking of national championships, pole vaulter Brook LoBue finished first at the BYU Invitational after having a good performance at the national championships. Utah has also gotten great performances from stars Tara Hall, Natasha Eldridge, Audrey Kiser and Trina Bateman.

Nephi Tyler and B.J. Christensen have anchored the men’s team behind Jameson, with impressive finishes the last two weeks. Lion Gallegos has also been a force that has finished well, as he broke his own personal record two weeks ago at the Stanford Invitational.

That said, this week will be critical in seeing if the Utes can continue to improve before heading to the MWC championships.
