Weather Ends Golf Early; U Finishes 10th

Inclement weather prevented the final round of swinging at the Cougar Classic for the U golf team, so the team’s 10th place standing after two rounds was its final result.

Utah’s score of +22 (598) trailed leaders BYU, Colorado State and Nevada by 29 strokes, as each finished with a ?7 (569).

Sophomore Luke Swilor led all Utes with a 16th-place finish. He shot rounds of 73 and 71 to finish even par.

Freshman Ashdon Woods was the team’s next-highest finisher, in a tie for 24th. Woods shot two rounds of 73 for a +2 finish (146).

Bruce Summerhays Jr. came in 50th after consecutive rounds of 76 for a +8 finish. Freshman Nick Micek and senior Paul Winterowd shot identical 76 and 80 rounds for a +12 ending and a tie for 71st.

The competition was the U’s last primer before the MWC Tournament in Sunriver, Ore., April 29 through May 1.
