No Room For Name Calling

By [email protected]

Editor:I recently read a letter to the editor in the October 28, 2003 edition of the Daily Utah Chorinicle, enitled “There Is No Room For Name-Calling.” Rev. James Thompson, O.P., expressed his displeasure for the article written by Craig Froehlich entitled “It Just Saint So,” appearing in the October 22 issue of the Chronicle. I reviewed this article and was outraged by the unjournalistic disrespect for the Catholic Church and Mother Teresa. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Siants, I understad that many religious groups have intrinsic doctrinal differences. This is no excuse, or justification, to attack an organization which provides much needed support to millions of people throughout the world. If we, as a society, want to truly make a difference in the lives of those we live around we must begin to work together, in a spirit of fellowship. Outright attacking never accomplishes anything and errodes interfaith relationships. I agree and add my voice to a call for a public apology from Mr. Froehlich. Sharing opinions is important, but unconstructive attacks on any organization is not only irresponsilbe, but extremely hurtful.
