Hi,
For at least 2 years now we’ve been bombarded with the issue of whether or not guns should be allowed on campus, with the Chrony strongly backing former Pres. Machen’s stance that guns should be banned on campus.
My personal stance would be leaning toward allowing concealed weapons permit holder to have their guns on campus.
But the thing that no one is willing to say is that whether its allowed or not allowed it will never be enforced so why spend years debating the issue. If guns are banned on campus (I’m pretty sure they are right now) will they start checking everyone’s bags at the doors? Of course not. So the only time someone will get in trouble for having a gun is if they pull it out and shoot someone, at which point it doesn’t matter whether they had a permit or not, whether it was illegal for them to have a gun on campus or not. Am I the only one that sees how moot this whole debate is? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
How much of our tight budget has been wasted fighting over a law that will be totally for posturing and never been enforced. If you could tell me that they will start having metal detectors at each door on campus then it might actually worth debating the topic. But that will never happen, so whats the point of making a law that will never be enforced.
