Utes At A Glance

Women’s tennis

The U women’s tennis team wrapped up a disappointing regular season last weekend with back-to-back losses to Wyoming and Colorado State. The Utes were devastated by injuries to two of their best players early in the year and the group never fully recovered.

The Utes concluded the regular season with a record of 7-16, while they earned a 1-6 record in conference play. That 1-6 record was shared by three other teams in the league, but due to tiebreakers, the Utes will be the No. 7 seed out of eight at the upcoming Mountain West Conference Championships.

The MWC Championships will be held April 29-May 1 in San Diego.

Men’s Tennis

The U men’s tennis team finished off its regular season with three meets against conference opponents at the Canyon Racquet Club last weekend. The Utes dropped the first matchup against New Mexico by a score of 5-2 and their second matchup against BYU by an identical score.

After two tough losses, the Utes earned a victory with a 5-2 win over Air Force.

The U concluded its season with a record of 11-10, 1-3 in conference play. That record was good enough to earn the Utes the No. 5 seed out of six at this weekend’s conference tourney.

The MWC Championships will be played at the same time and location as the women’s, April 29 May 1 in San Diego.

Lacrosse

The U lacrosse club heads to Provo this weekend for the RMLAX regional playoffs. The Utes are currently ranked No. 14 by a popular online ranking service after earning a 10-5 regular season record.

The Utes will face the No. 2 ranked Colorado State Rams, who earned the No. 1 seed in the regional playoffs with an impressive regular-season record of 18-1. Should the Utes defeat the Rams in the first round of the regional tourney, they would likely receive a bid to the upcoming national championships in St. Louis.

Track

After a highly successful spring outdoor season, the U track team heads to Provo this weekend for the BYU Wells Fargo Invitational. Only those athletes who have not yet posted qualifying NCAA provisional marks will compete.

The Utes will head to Las Vegas next month for the MWC Championships. Competition for that event will run May 13-15.
