Utes-At-A-Glance

Ladies’ swimming and diving season recapThe Utes swimming and diving team has started 6-0, and is in first place in the Mountain West.Their most recent victories came against Colorado State and New Mexico last week. They face Wyoming next, on Jan. 28.

Women’s Tennis SeasonWomen’s tennis is set to kick off the 2005 season in Eugene, Ore., from Jan. 21-23, where they will face Oregon, UC Irvine and Portland. Last season, the Utes finished 7-16, tying for sixth place in the Mountain West. Four freshmen have been added to a young roster, and coach Megan Dorny considers the upcoming competition “a good opportunity to see how we measure up with the nation’s elite.”

U skier named to U.S. World Junior TeamSophomore cross-country skier Casey Simons, from Park City, has been named to the U.S. Junior World Championship team.The announcement followed the U.S. Cross Country Championships, in Soldier Creek. “It is a great reward and honor for him,” says head coach Kevin Sweeney.

Utah basketball ranked 11th best all-timeStreet and Smiths has recognized the Ute basketball program as the 11th best all-time in the NCAA. The publication, which ranks the teams based on a variety of factors, is due out Jan. 25.
