Editor:
I am an active greek sorority member and I am offended by Nick Macey’s article (“A greek house divided will not stand,” Feb. 1).
What could cause more division within the greek system than tearing down another chapter? Of course there are always rivals, and there always will be, but that’s not a reason to completely demean another chapter.
Also, it’s a great way to have Beta Theta Pi misrepresented. Fall recruitment-not rush, since it is a term of the past-is very formal and very structured. Spring recruitment is informal. There are no set dates, times or activities between chapters. It is completely independent for every chapter.
Sometimes the sororities begin at the same time, but we are allowed to extend a bid to a potential new member at any time after Spring Recruitment begins.
It is completely the responsibility of the individual chapters to organize and publicize their recruitment events.
Our greek system is amazing and wonderful. I just hope that Nick’s article hasn’t caused the damage that it could.
