The U is turning 155 years old today, and students are invited to celebrate Saturday night at the Masquerade Ball held in Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The ball is semi-formal, with masks provided at the door. Guests will be able to dip fruit, pretzels and others into flowing chocolate fountains.
“It’s an excuse to dress up, have fun and wear a mask,” said TaNisha Walker, organizer of the event. “Everyone is invited.”
Founders Day tradition dates back as far as 1899, when the Utah State Legislature voted to move the U to its permanent campus on Salt Lake City’s East Bench. The event coincided with the U’s Feb. 28 founding date and inspired a major celebration that continued with the school’s 50th anniversary in 1900.
Students can purchase tickets throughout the week in the Union from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Heritage Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. or the ASUU front desk.
Tickets cost $10 per single and $15 per couple.
