I think that an international general education requirement is a great idea.
The purpose of general requirements is to give every student at the U basic knowledge in many different fields. The world is changing and becoming much more global. We need to have this basic knowledge of the international community to survive, succeed and to be conscious citizens of the global community.
Some may see it as a roadblock to graduation, but what other time in our lives will we have the opportunity to learn about so many different areas of study?
This is one of the reasons a college degree is so valuable. You study your major in depth, but you also have that basic knowledge of other subjects that you just might need someday.
