Ute spring football Notes

Scrimmage/Practice

Saturday’s scrimmage has been moved to 8:30 a.m. at the McCarthey Practice Fields (West of the Smith Football Center). The team will run about 100 plays. The Utes will practice Thursday at McCarthey from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. All practices and scrimmages are open to the public.

Injuries

H-Back Brent Casteel has returned to practice, eight days after having arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Wide receiver Justin Walker will miss the rest of spring ball with a knee injury. Walker was moved back to wideout last week from his new defensive back position.

Both running back Joe Johnson and defensive back Steve Tate are questionable for the remainder of spring ball, having been diagnosed with an ankle sprain and a thigh contusion.

Position battles

Tim Harris is challenging Casey Evans for the starting free safety spot. Evans went into spring No. 1 on the depth chart, but Harris has made strides of late.

At running back, Quinton Ganther and Darryl Poston are now listed as co-starters. Poston, a transfer from USC, is coming off a season marred by a knee injury suffered early last year.
