Letter to the Editor: Thanks to Carrie for saying something

Editor:

In response to Monday’s column (“Who despises his or her academic adviser?” April 18):

I always meant to say something to someone about my adviser who could actually do something but it usually just ended up being other students who heard my complaints and chimed in their own.

In fact, if it weren’t for friends who had already graduated with criminology certificates and gave me advice, I would not have faired so well. Although, I did end up taking a class I thought I needed but didn’t.

Perhaps it is the adviser’s “job” to get us to spend more in tuition on classes we think we need!

I also think something needs to be done about bad advisers. I graduate in May and I will help fight for students right to have real advisers.

Kristy Powell

Senior,

Criminology
