Crimson Nights to intensify pre-game atmosphere

No tickets to the big game yet?

Don’t worry, there’s still hope.

As part of tonight’s installment of Crimson Nights, titled “Red Riot,” those in attendance will have a shot at a pair of Utah/BYU tickets in addition to the other prizes including a trip for two to New York City, an iPod Nano and a dinner for two at Z’Tejas.

Some of the prizes will be awarded early in the night and others at midnight, so organizers are encouraging students to come early and stay late.

The Student Travel Association is sponsoring the three-day, two-night trip for two, which includes paid airfare and hotel accommodations, to the Big Apple. The winner will also be entered into a drawing to travel with MTV’s the “Real World.”

In addition to prizes, Crimson Nights staffers have coordinated several events, which they hope will bolster school pride and anticipation for the big game.

“You’re going to see red lights, decorations and just tons of red stuff,” said Shadie Ghaibi, Crimson Nights director. “We’re going to push Ute pride. We’re getting the band and ROTC involved.”

UPC organizers hope both the presence of local television stations-which will be on campus for a spirit competition at 9:30 p.m.-and an array of prizes will keep partiers around and urge them to come earlier than usual.

“Usually Crimson Nights doesn’t get packed until 11 (p.m.) or 12 (a.m.), but we want people to get there as soon as the doors open because we want a crowd for the news,” Ghaibi said.

Several of the activities set for Friday night’s party include a U92 dance, Apple-sponsored make-your-own posters, football piatas, a casino, wax hands and airbrush tattoos.

As always, Crimson Nights goes from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., is free for students with a UCard and costs $2 for guests.
