Student group collects gifts for needy children

By Dale Thompson

The National Resident Hall Honorary will sub for Santa this December.

The honor society for students living in the residence halls concentrates on service, leadership and recognition year round, but through Dec. 15, they will focus on giving needy children a respectable holiday.

The group is sponsoring three families, which include eight children from three to 11 years old, through the Sub for Santa program. NRHH is trying to bring them books, clothes and toys.

Two trees in the Heritage Center were hung with approximately 60 ornaments asking for specific items.

“All but one ornament has been taken. I’m very excited about it,” said Nicole Kraus, service director of the group and a junior in biology.

NRHH is planning to ask Housing and Residential Education to help with funding to buy some of the bigger items, like a bike.

Since the NRHH has worked with Sub for Santa for several years now, it is allowed to deliver the gifts in person and visit with its sponsored families.

The NRHH is seeking participation from anyone on campus, particularly those in the residence halls. The deadline for gifts is Dec. 15.
