Sports Briefs: Utes at a glance

Utes ranked in top 12

After a historic run to the Elite Eight, the U women’s basketball team has been awarded with a No. 12 final ranking in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches’ Poll. The ranking is the highest season-ending spot the Utes have ever held, beating out the 16th ranking the team earned after the 2001 season.

Snow day for baseball

The U baseball team was forced to switch up its schedule because of snow on Thursday. The Utes will play a doubleheader against UVSC on Friday in Orem and a single game at Ute field at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The doubleheader in Orem will begin at 3 p.m.

Ferris honored as player of the week

Sophomore tennis star Liz Ferris has earned the MWC women’s tennis Player of the Week. Ferris earned the honor after upsetting then-No. 18 Olga Boulytcheva of BYU in singles play. Thanks to the victory, Ferris is now ranked 74th in the nation by the ITA.
