Editor:
I’d like to begin with this quote from your boilerplate disclaimer, directly under the unsigned editorial: “Material defamatory to an individual or group because of race, ethnic background, religion…will be edited or will not be published.”
Is that truly the case? Pete Harrison’s April 24 editorial cartoon, depicting a lunatic in a straightjacket and another student saying, “Now I know why they call it ‘Institute,'” while a bird flies by saying “cuckoo, cuckoo” seems to me to be material defamatory to a group because of religion.
Perhaps I’m just being too sensitive-that has been known to happen-but I think I’m well within my rights to request an apology or, at the very least, an explanation for this derogatory, spiteful cartoon.
