While I was in college, my 1-year-older sister, who attended the same college, was caught in a race riot just off campus on her way to class. Her roommate was shot and robbed ON campus (not by a college student) and my roommate was robbed just off campus at an ATM machine (not by college students).
During the four years I attended college, a serial rapist struck five times, trapping females either in the laundry rooms of the dorm late at night, following them to their rooms or taking them off campus at knifepoint.
All of this at a small Midwestern college-in a town of about 250,000 (at the time).
No thank you! I carried while in college and do to this day. A campus is no more immune to violent crime than any other place, and those who believe they are should come down from their ivory towers of theory.
