Reveche wins singles title at BYU Invite

The U women’s tennis team opened up its 2006-2007 season in Provo last week, and Cheyenne Reveche made the most of it.

The Ute junior won the Flight 2 singles title at the BYU Invitational, defeating Washington State’s Alexsandra Stefanova 6-2, 6-2 to take the crown.

It was an overall dominant effort all weekend for Reveche, as she didn’t drop a single set. She opened up first-round play with a 6-0, 6-0 thumping of Erin Manning of Utah State before advancing to the quaterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Weber State’s Kate Ennenga.

On the second day of competition, Reveche fought off WSU’s Anastesia Opata 6-3, 6-2 and, in what was probably her stiffest challenge of the weekend, toppled Boise State’s Stacey Housley 7-5, 6-2.

Two other Utes-Karine Bourdages and Elizabeth Ferris-advanced into the semifinals before bowing out Friday. Ferris defeated Marjokein Van de Ven in the quarters before falling to BYU’s Lauren Jones. Bourdages fell to Stefanova 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-4.

The Utes have high prospects for the upcoming season, returning three juniors and two seniors from last year’s active roster, though they are trying to replace local standout Allison Hanson-Sine, who has graduated.
