New Mexico vs. Utah: The X-factor

Will the Utes be able to contain one of the most prolific offenses in the Mountain West Conference?

Utah comes into the game against New Mexico with a highly touted defense that ranks 18th in the nation in total yards allowed per game (313.0). The Utes have been particularly tough defending against the run as of late, holding opposing teams to an average of 70.8 rushing yards over the past five games. Meanwhile, the Lobos boast one of the best running backs in the conference, Rodney Ferguson. The 2006 MWC Offensive Player of the Year averages 101.1 rushing yards per game this season. Can the Utes stop Ferguson from yet another impressive game? If the Lobos take to the air, can Utah stop dangerous Lobo receivers Marcus Smith and Travis Brown?
