The Word

The American Endowment for Education in India Benefit
Saturday, 7 p.m.
$10, $25 or $50
OSH
The American Endowment for Education in India Inc. is a non-profit organization working to provide education to children in villages throughout India. There is an emphasis on assisting young girls and students from the lowest castes throughout the country.

The AEEI was founded in 2000 by Anand Dyal-Chand in a storage facility and has grown significantly since. They now have eight full classrooms equipped with washrooms and running water that serve more than 270 students. The AEEI is hosting a fundraiser for the addition of a second floor and a girls’ dormitory. The fundraiser is in OSH on Saturday night and will feature traditional Indian dance and music. The prices are $10 for general admission, $25 for preferred seating and $50 for sponsor.

Stephen Malkmus
and The Jicks
Saturday, 8 p.m.
$20
The Urban Lounge (241 S. 500 East)
During the ’90s, Pavement was the band all the cool kids liked.
Some regard them as the forefathers of the indie-rock movement largely because of the success they had as a band 8212;without the help of a major label. After the band broke up in 2000, guitarist Stephen Malkmus embarked on an impressive solo career and has since released four albums.

His newest album with The Jicks, titled Real Emotional Trash, was released in May, and it’s full of the fuzzy guitar riffs and vocal hooks that put Malkmus on the map in the first place.

Body Worlds 3
Daily
The Leonardo (209 E. 500 South)
Body Worlds 3 & The Story of the Heart8212;the successful traveling exhibit that showcases the inner workings of the human body8212;has been running at The Leonardo downtown for the past month.

Students are able to purchase discounted Flex Gift Vouchers from the Union for $17, which includes the service fee. If you haven’t had the chance to experience this exhibit firsthand, do yourself a favor and make it a priority. It’s one of the most fascinating displays you’ll ever get a chance to witness. With the discounted prices for students, this should be the perfect opportunity.
