Gas tax would help clear air

Editor:

I’d like to make a suggestion: For the months of January and February, when the inversion problem in Salt Lake City is the worst, we impose an additional five cents per gallon tax on gasoline. The money generated would be used to allow everyone to ride the buses for free for these two months. The idea would not be to punish people who drive. Drivers might not end up spending more money on gas anyway because they would waste less gas sitting in traffic and driving around looking for parking. The idea would be to make breathing a little safer for everyone8212;especially Utah’s children.
