Memorial event focuses on Kristallnacht

By Jenna Miller, Staff Writer

The U will observe its 25th annual Days of Remembrance this week in honor of the people who died during the Holocaust.

The Days of Remembrance committee picked “Kristallnacht” as this year’s theme, which means “Night of the Broken Glass.” The Kristallnacht refers to the night when Nazi storm troopers destroyed several Jewish synagogues and shops.

The remembrance starts today and include lectures, films, discussions and workshops throughout the week to keep the Holocaust in everyone’s minds.

“The Days of Remembrance commemoration has been an important part of the University of Utah for the past 25 years,” said Octavio Villalpando, associate vice president of the Office for Equity and Diversity, in a press release. “The Office for Equity and Diversity is pleased to sponsor this historic commemoration to honor the victims of this terrible injustice and provide venues for reflection and study to ensure it is never forgotten and that it never happens again.”

All events for Days of Remembrance are free and open to the public. For more information, contact 801-581-7569.
