Fall Break is here, giving students a chance to reenergize, refocus, recharge and catch up on sleep missed during the first half of the semester.
“The purpose of fall break is to get refreshed. I’d definitely miss the week off if it wasn’t here,” said Gabrielle Finch, an undeclared freshman.
Many students have been looking forward to the break for the last few weeks, especially after midterms.
Emily Hanych, a sophomore in environmental studies, said the thought of Fall Break broke her motivation this week.
“I was just going with the flow of school, and then I heard everyone talking about how we almost had the week off,” Hanych said.
Hanych said she thinks Fall Break cuts down on the amount of stress on students’ brains.
“School gets overwhelming, it’s so nice to have the change in pace,” Hanych said. “I can catch up on sleep and regain focus.”
Mimosa Vo, a freshman in biology, said Fall Break will be a good way to relieve stress from midterms,
“Fall Break is healthy for students because we’ve been under a considerable amount of stress in the last few weeks,” Vo said. “The break will help me chill out.”
Vo said she is looking forward to a week of rest and relaxation and said she thinks it will help clear her mind.
While some students will be using Fall Break to de-stress, some students, such as Alex McMillan, an undeclared freshman, will be using the week off to get back to their hobbies.
“I’m planning on focusing on myself,” McMillan said. “I need to de-stress and just have a chance to do some of the stuff I love to do.”
Some students are packing their bags to join the groups going on Alternative Fall Break. Each semester the U gives students the opportunity to sign up for different service trips. Next week, students will represent the U in Canada, Washington, California, Oregon and New Mexico. Each trip includes different service projects, such as helping the homeless, marine conservation, empowering youth and education and environmental exploration. Each service trip is full of eager U students looking to make a difference with their week off.
