Women’s soccer: Utes, No. 21 DePaul Play to 0-0 Tie

Turning Point • Though there were no goals scored in Utah’s 0-0 draw at No. 21 DePaul on Sunday. The Utes had plenty of chances in overtime to put the ball in the back of the net. In the 108th minute, Natalie Vukic nearly sent her team home with two victories on the weekend, but her shot went just over the crossbar, resulting in the tie.

Utes’ MVP • Utah used another strong effort from goalkeeper Lindsey Luke, who recorded her 22nd career shutout by blanking the Blue Demons on Sunday. Additionally, the senior made an exemplary save in the 105th minute when she dove through the air to keep the ball from breaking the plane.

Hidden Hero • Katie Rogers put together a solid weekend of competition, playing nearly every minute, according to head coach Rich Manning, and was the only Ute to put her shot on goal against DePaul on Sunday. Rogers started all but one game last season for the Utes.

Pac-12 Point • The Utes used these two nonconference games over the weekend to prepare for a grueling Pac-12 schedule, and DePaul was the opponent to do that. The Blue Demons are nationally-ranked, just like five Pac-12 schools, and Utah will have its work cut out once the conference season begins.

Coach’s Corner • “We came through with a very gritty performance against a strong DePaul team and I was pleased with the fact we accepted all challenges. Over the weekend we have proven we have an excellent defensive team. Our backline, goalkeeper, midfielders and forwards have all done a nice job and now we can focus on cleaning up things offensively.” — Head coach Rich Manning
