The career planning process can be difficult and somewhat overwhelming for students. That’s why the U provides Career Services to help aid students in the process and ensure they’re on the right track for future career success.

Career Services educates students and alumni in discovering and pursuing career choices. Not only do they aid in the planning process, they also offer a wide variety of programming that brings employers to campus. Each student is placed with a personal career coach who helps them explore their field of study, gain insight and advice from professionals, and establish a strong professional network.

“Whatever a student imagines doing, Career Services can help,” said Valery Pozo, Program Manager and Career Counselor with Career Services . “As a University of Utah student, they have their very own personal Career Coach – one who can help you find that first college job, identify skills you can build each year in college, connect you with internships, and… after those years at college whiz by, help you land your dream job.”

Career Services strives to create a world where students recognize and understand the importance of planning for their careers early and often. For alumni, the goal is to establish long-term relationships between the U and the community. Even employers benefit from involvement with Career Services, which gives them the opportunity to secure a prime recruiting destination to hire capable, smart students and alumni eager to take the next step in their career.

Students who take advantage of all that Career Services has to offer are more likely to establish lasting relationships with professionals and employers in the field they are interested in pursuing. They tend to create stronger job search and graduate school materials, including resumes, cover letters and personal statements. Most importantly, they will develop a plan to help them achieve their future goals.

By providing a program like Career Services, the U offers a professional, judgment-free environment where students can explore career possibilities open to them. Through collaboration with and guidance from the program’s counselors, students are able to become passionately engaged in their field, make their dreams a reality, and create a future for themselves. The program helps students graduate with a positive outlook, armed with the knowledge required to find professional success, and ready to meet the challenges that come with starting a career.

If you are interested in Career Services, stop by the Student Services Building (east of the Park Building) in room 350 and meet your career coach and find resources that best suit you and your field of study .
