Jack Bender is originally from Sleepy Hollow, New York and traveled to Utah to attend the U. He is seeking a degree in film and media arts with a minor in arts technology as well as a certificate in entrepreneurship.

Bender grew up in a family of golfers — both of his parents are professionals — and continues to play as much as he can. He has been involved with ASUU for the past three years on the marketing board and hopes to use his previous knowledge to give students a better experience with student government and at the U.

Bender was elected into office this past year with the goal of making substantial changes to ASUU and creating an inviting and inclusive space for all students. He created and ran the S.L.C. (Students Leading Change) Party because he knew there were many small changes that could be made within student government that could change the way it supports students. He then deployed an effective marketing campaign that reached thousands of students and won the election.

“I believe that my platform goals are what really won the election since they appeal to so many students and can be possible within a year,” said Bender.

As the student body president, Bender wants to make sure he can be the student voice to administrators and represent the U in a very positive way. His plan is to effectively manage student government and hold student leaders accountable to their positions, which he believes will translate into better student experiences.
