Chase Sexton dominated the 24th annual Salt Lake City Supercross on Saturday, May 10, but Cooper Webb did exactly what he needed to do, finishing fourth to secure his third Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450 SX Championship.
Sexton, who entered the 17 and final round trailing Webb by nine points, led nearly every lap en route to his seventh win of the season. Despite winning more races than any other rider in the 2025 season, Sexton fell two points short of the 450 SX Championship after Webb rode a calculated race to preserve his lead on points.
Webb briefly led early in the final race before Sexton made a clean pass on Lap 3. Knowing a fifth-place finish or better would secure the title, Webb rode cautiously, yielding to Sexton and later to Malcolm Stewart and Justin Cooper. A late-race scare came when Stewart pushed Webb wide, allowing Cooper to slip into third. But Webb maintained fourth and the points lead to secure the 450 SX Championship.
Cooper’s third-place finish secured him third overall in the standings, four points ahead of Stewart, who finished second in the race. Joey Savatgy completed the top five, while early holeshot winner Aaron Plessinger faded to sixth.
Webb ends the season with 365 points to Sexton’s 363, becoming the seventh rider in series history to win at least three 450 SX championships. He recorded five wins, 13 podiums and 16 top-five finishes in 17 rounds.
In the 250 East/West Showdown, Haiden Deegan ran away with the race, but the real drama was behind him, where the East title came down to the final laps in a three-way battle between Tom Vialle, Seth Hammaker and RJ Hampshire.
Vialle ran second early before losing ground, while Hammaker moved into a championship-winning position midway through the race. A fierce battle with Julien Beaumer slowed Hammaker’s progress and allowed Hampshire to close the gap. With just two laps remaining, Hampshire made a desperate move on Hammaker entering the finish line turn, taking both riders down.
Vialle capitalized, passing both and finishing third behind Deegan and Beaumer. The result gave Vialle just enough to win the 250 East title, as Hammaker remounted for fourth but lost the points lead.
The dramatic showdown capped off a wild 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season. The sport now shifts to the Pro Motocross Outdoor Championship, which begins May 24 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California.
