When it came to sports in high school, I admit, I was spoiled. I was released early for my track and cross-country meets and allowed to make up any assignments or tests I missed. Once, I was even allowed to make up a midterm to go watch the basketball team in the state playoffs. Even athletes on unsanctioned sports teams, such as lacrosse players, received excusals from school.

The Utes' final competitors were eliminated after senior Chelsea Shapard finished 13th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.36 seconds and junior hammer thrower Sarah Grimm's mark was just 5" short of qualifying for the finals, also landing her at 13th place overall in her event.

Senior Chelsea Shapard qualified in the 400-meter hurdles event, after finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 58.37 seconds. Joining her on her trip to the south will be hammer thrower Sarah Grimm, who earned an at-large bid to the championships because of her season-best mark that ranked her 15th in the nation.

Utes take fifth place at MWC Championships

Utah wrapped up conference competition this past weekend with the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships, held in Laramie, Wyo. Utah finished with 76 points, thanks to two event wins and four top five finishes on the final day of competition, which was good enough for fifth place.

Utah track battles weather to post weekend wins

Utah finished in No. 12 overall in the Drake Relays, while the Robinson Invitational saw the Utes get multiple top finishes, including a win in the hammer throw.
