"Apocalypto" Directed by Mel Gibson It's like that old gingerbread man story ("Run, run, as fast as you can..."), but instead of a gingerbread man it's a Mayan fleeing for his life from a rival tribe that wishes to sacrifice him to its gods. Actually, it's not like the gingerbread man story at all.

Greek Council: no comment

November 9, 2006
The Greek Council and The Chronicle are officially on the outs. Yes, in years past, there has been a little tension here and there, but after a recent article ("Neighbors voice concerns about relations with greeks, U," Nov. 3) was viewed by some on the council and those throughout the greek community as an unnecessary one-sided slam against greeks, the council has taken the official stance that, for the duration of the members' terms, it will refuse comment to The Chronicle.

Atlantic has an Ocean of midseason intrigue

November 8, 2006
So I went to Monster.com, trying to get a head start on the whole "graduating from college and getting a real job" thing. And I figured the National Basketball Association was a good place to get my start--something with entry-level qualifications. Something like, say, General Manager or Vice President of Basketball Operations (I assumed head coaching positions would require "experience" or something).

The David Eccles School of Business has named Robert L. Rice, a Utah businessman and U donor, to the Business School Hall of Fame. At a ceremony on Monday--which local business leaders, business school alumni and donors attended--Rice became the 21st inductee into the hall of fame.

Think twice about Proposition 3

November 7, 2006
Clean mass transit obviously has its benefits to Salt Lake County residents, but expansion is a colossal undertaking that requires a lot of taxpayer dollars. It has to be done right. Proposition 3 asks voters to give their consent to a one-fourth percent state sales tax increase--which doesn't sound like much until you consider that the proposed expansions are expected to cost almost $900 million.

Following your heart will hurt Utah

November 7, 2006
All people in Utah should vote Republican this election, not because they want to or should, but because they have to. Politics today is a team sport. Don't pick the candidate who best represents you and your views-pick the candidate who will do the best pork-barrel bargaining for the state.

The Chronicle’s View: Sarah Jones concert unveils lack of ASUU game plan

November 6, 2006
If the loss of student ticket sales doesn't hurt the Associated Students of the University of Utah's budget-as Alexandra Gregory, special programs chairwoman for the Associated Students of the University of Utah (and, in the interest of full disclosure, a Chronicle A&E writer) alleged when it was announced that tickets to Sarah Jones would be free-ASUU shouldn't have been charging students for these events to begin with.

Slackline club staggers

By By Adam Bowman November 3, 2006
After an unsteady beginning and a wavering future, the U slackline club is attempting to keep its balance. "It's a work in progress," said Andrew Eisenberg, a sophomore major in urban planning. Eisenberg started the Outdoor Equilibrium Slackline Club on campus in the fall of 2005, and although the club started with about 10 to 15 people who showed up to slackline and five to 10 dedicated members, the club is now struggling to keep its membership strong.
