More problem solving, please

By By Anastasia Niedrich November 13, 2007
Whenever I squabble with my friends or loved ones, at some point I realize the sum of the "argument calculus," as I call it. If we were to spend the same amount of time working together to fix the problem that we're arguing about, we would likely have fewer problems and arguments.

MWC Power Rankings

November 13, 2007
No. 1 Brigham Young (7-2, 5-0 MWC) Next: Nov. 17 at Wyoming The Cougars sit on the fringe of the Top-25 and are one of two MWC teams that own a six-game winning streak heading into the weekend. Unless mother nature changes what looks to be mid-50 degree temperatures in Laramie on Saturday, the Cougars won't have to worry about the weather either -- just the hornets' nest their northern rival stirred up.

Remembering the good ol’ days

By By David Servatius November 13, 2007
God, how I miss the man! I knew when he left all those years ago that life would be very different. I fully expected things to be worse without him, and so I've been coping. But bumping into him again on campus recently brought everything back and made me painfully aware of how truly awful things have been since we've been apart.

November 13, 2007

Mountain class offered at the U

By By Jessica Dunn November 13, 2007
Gian Zini's outlook on life and the mountains is summed up in his favorite quote by Mark Twain. "A man who keeps company with glaciers comes to feel tolerably insignificant by and by. The Alps and the glaciers together are able to take every bit of conceit out of a man and reduce his self-importance to zero if he will only remain within the influence of their sublime presence long enough to give it a fair and reasonable chance to do its work.

AK fills up the boxscore again

By By Jason Peterson November 13, 2007
Little-used Darryl Watkins of the Sacramento Kings drove into the Jazz's paint, scored on a six-foot hookshot and ran back on defense to contest Jazz forward Paul Millsap's shot in the final seconds of Monday night's game. Too bad for Sacramento that the game was pretty much in the record books by the end of the first quarter.

Researchers find home of space power rays

By By Clayton Norlen November 13, 2007
Researchers have found what they believe is the source of high-power cosmic rays, which are the most energetic particles in the universe. Cosmic rays are super-charged protons that are expelled from our own sun and other stars at low-energy levels. Medium-level cosmic rays are known to originate from exploding stars.

U President Michael Young announced yesterday that recent Nobel Prize winner Mario Capecchi will give the commencement address for May 2008 graduates. Administrators usually reveal the speaker in early spring, but Young's assistant Laura Snow said they decided to make the announcement early because of the excitement surrounding the award.

Sigma Chi’s raise money for cancer center

By By Michael McFall November 13, 2007
Although the final tally hasn't been taken, the Sigma Chi fraternity collected between $10,000 and $15,000 to donate to the Huntsman Cancer Institute during their annual Derby Days fundraiser held last week. "For us, it's a fun way to give back to the community," said Sigma Chi President Tim Jones.
