It was a wacky world in sports

Before Wednesday night's showdown with the 42-9 Lakers, Jazz point guard Deron Williams summed up his team's potential to win the game by saying, "Everything will have to go right."

A dedication to Ryan Martin

We remember you, Ryan Martin, as all we hope you saw in yourself. Your peace is all we can ever hope for.

Mitchell breaks assist record

By By Natalie Dicou December 3, 2007
Some days, everything just seems to click. The U women's basketball team and point guard Leilani Mitchell enjoyed one of those days Saturday when Mitchell shattered the single-game assists record in a win over Fresno State. Monica Starrett set the Utah single-game assist record during the 1981-1982 season when she handed out 15 assists.

Fighting for lower birth control costs

By By Constance Yonashiro November 29, 2007
When birth control prices spiked earlier this year on campuses across the nation, Students for Choice was one of the few U groups to protest the change. Letter: Racial stereotypes are not acceptable

December 1, 2006
Editor: In regard to Lee Barnett's letter ("Sheya is no more privileged than any other at the U," Nov. 28): Maybe Yusuf referred to Sheya as a "white Christian male" because Sheya referred to himself as such. Barnett, "open your eyes," like you yourself stated, and realize that you are trying to defend Sheya from (some of) the same issues that are also forced upon students in the Black Student Union (BSU) and MEChA.

I’m thankful for sports at a time like this

By By Tony Pizza December 1, 2006
As I began to count the fingers and toes on my son Carson's hands and feet shortly after he emerged from the womb last Tuesday, I found myself in a thankful state of mind two days before the rest of the country would officially be thankful. Of course, I was thankful for the willingness of my wife, my mother and women in general for being brave enough to go through the pain of childbirth in order to bring babies into this world (not surprisingly, I also found myself thankful that none of my bodily orifices had to stretch 10 centimeters for Carson to come into this world).

Gameboy Media: We’ve reached the next level in Iraq

December 1, 2006
It's official: Iraq is embroiled in a full-blown "civil war." Apparently this is beyond dispute, according to recent corroboration from Bill Clinton ("What's happening in Iraq is 'normal definition of a civil war,'" Nov. 30 in USA Today), Colin Powell ("Iraq meets civil war definition," Nov.
