Hole in the wall: No cargo shorts allowed

By Erik Lopez

According to Clubplanet.com, The Dawg Pound doesn’t offer celebrities or a $20 cover charge and is “nowhere near the pages of Us Weekly or TMZ, but hey, beer is beer, whiskey is whiskey. A friendly neighborhood bar where you can pretty much wear whatever the hell you want. (But leave the cargo shorts at home.)”

In its most common usage, the Dawg Pound refers to the rowdy crowd of rabid fans in the bleachers section of a Cleveland Browns’ football game. In keeping with the spirit of the Brown’s fans, The Dawg Pound is just that: an average dive bar among the many running along State Street. A typical night includes karaoke tunes like power ballads, ’80s hair metal and anything that invites a mullet. The beer is also cheap and plentiful.

The Dawg Pound is located at 3550 S. State Street. To find out more about this incredible bar, see www.myspace.com/dawgpoundslc for a listing of specials, bands and cover.
