The Pulse

By Trevor Hale, Red Pulse Editor

Halloween has always been a double-edged sword for me. I love it, but I tend to think too much about it. It’s a constant battle to one-up my costume from last year, which is becoming increasingly harder to do. It’s not that I have amazing ideas for my costumes (well, occasionally I do) but still, the pressure is there for me.

I doubt anyone else cares what I dress up as, or even if I dress up at all.

I’m trying to adopt that same attitude when looking at the costumes of friends, trick-or-treaters and random people on the street. Sure, it’s fun to see the crazy ideas people come up with, but sometimes it’s just painful to see an awful idea. Unfortunately, there are a lot more bad ideas than good ones.

And this year will be full of terrible costumes8212;I’m sure of it. Unfortunately all the worst ones are going to be a variation of the same one: Heath Ledger’s Joker.

Yes, we know “The Dark Knight” was a great movie and yes, we remember that Ledger’s performance was one for the ages. Please leave it at that.

You don’t really want to go to a party where there are six people wearing the same thing, do you?

It’s important for everyone to have fun and even more important to be safe this year. But maybe the most important rule for Halloween is to be original. I know everyone is capable of something better.

Happy Halloween.
