The Utes entered Saturday’s matchup undefeated in conference play and continued their winning streak, dominating Queen from start to finish, eventually coming away with a 17-3 road victory.
First Half
The first quarter was absolutely dominated by the Utes, as Chase Robertson and Will Overly got the Utah scoring started with back-to-back goals within the first two minutes. Robertson continued to extend the Ute lead with his second score and Colby Plotts pushed the lead to 4-0 with 04:18 remaining in the quarter. Cade Faulkner and Bryce Madden each added goals of their own to give the Utes a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the second quarter of action.
With a six-goal lead, Utah continued to dominate as Gavin Howard scored his first goal of the year to give Utah a 7-0 lead with 10:40 remaining in the half. Queens answered for their first score of the game, but goals from Overly and Zachary White down the stretch of the first half were enough to push the Utah lead to 9-1 heading into halftime.
Second Half
Ryan Stines and Luke McNamara opened up the third quarter with their first goals of the game to push the lead to 10, 11-1. As the third quarter continued, McNamara added a man-up goal, followed by Luc Charbonnier, who found the back of the net as Utah extended their lead once again, this time to 13-3. Overly cashed in his hat trick as the third quarter came to a close to hand Utah a 14-3 lead going into the fourth quarter.
White, Howard and Nathan Chalmers each cashed in goals in the fourth quarter en route to Utah’s most dominant win of the year, 17-3.
Utes Stuffing the Stat Sheet
Overly led the Utes in scoring with three goals, while Robertson, White, Howard and McNamara each added two. Eleven different Utes found the back of the net in this game to cap off their most complete game of the season as a team. Colin Lenskold was absolutely phenomenal in the net, saving 13 Queens shots while allowing just three goals. The Utes forced 12 turnovers defensively to help shut down the Queen offense in dominant fashion.
What’s Next for the Utes?
Utah will head to Colorado to take on Air Force in their final conference game of the regular season at 12 p.m. MST next Saturday. The Utes will look to stay undefeated in conference play heading into the ASUN tournament. Catch all the action next weekend on ESPN+.
