Women’s swim team sees success while men’s falls behind

By James Boehly, Staff Writer

After upsetting Washington on Friday, the Utah women’s swimming and diving team once again defeated the Huskies 153-140. The women’s team also dispatched the host Boise State Broncos 197-84.

“It was a lot closer this time,” said head coach Greg Winslow. “They took their best lineup and came after us and we flat-out beat them.”

Whitney Lopus performed well for the Utes as she had multiple first-place finishes in the 100-meter free, 100-meter fly and the 200-meter fly. Another multiple first-place finisher was Hannah Caron, who placed first in the 200 breast, 200 IM and the 200 free.

On the men’s side, the Utes lost to Washington for the second straight day in a 149-125 defeat. George Evans was the lone first-place finisher for the Utes as he won the 100-meter free.

The next meet for the Utes will be Saturday at San Diego State. This matchup against the Aztecs will be the first conference matchup of the season.

Swimming is one of the many fall sporting events happening at the U. For sports fans October can be the best time of the year, there are enough different events happening to keep every fan happy.
