Editor:
I’ve had to laugh recently as I’ve been reading the negative comments about the U’s student football club, the MUSS.
In Patrick Muir’s article (“Empty seats anger U students,” July 8), we read about Tyson Sharp’s unfortunate sob story of how he had to wait in line so long to get his BYU tickets and have Stephanie Callister, a MUSS member, explain to us what true fans are. It was a joke!
These students don’t understand that the MUSS has been an integral part of our football team’s success. Ask Urban Meyer. The first thing he did when he arrived on campus as head coach was get the student body involved. He didn’t put the MUSS logo on the back of the player’s helmets to be cute.
Even if the MUSS members come late, at least they’re there-unlike the last 20 years that I’ve been attending football games at the U. The MUSS has brought excitement to the student body!
I found this comment by Stephanie Callister to be especially humorous: “You’re supposed to go to the games an hour and a half early. It shows that you’re a true fan.”
A true fan does not need to be more than one minute early. A true fan shows up on time and doesn’t leave early. It doesn’t matter who the Utes are playing, how cold it is, or what our record is that season-a true fan is there for the entire game.
Hey, students: Save a dollar a day for a month. For those not majoring in accounting, that’s more than the $25 MUSS fee. Join the MUSS. Come to the game on time. Don’t leave early. Let’s bust the BCS again!
And if you don’t want to join, don’t cry about it!
Oh, and have fun waiting in line for those BYU tickets! GO UTES!
