Fans gathered at the Maverik Center in Salt Lake City on May 9 for Charlie Puth’s tenth performance in his world tour.
Puth and his six band mates played fan-favorites, from across his discography, amidst a visual spectacle of red and blue lights. The tour advertises the release of his newest album, “Whatever’s Clever!,” earlier this year. Pop artists Ally Salort and Daniel Seavey played the supporting acts.
Puth’s concert is one of several that the Maverik Center has lined up this year, and the venue is intent on giving its audiences the best experience possible. “We want to make sure that when you’re here, you come and enjoy your show, and that’s the only thing you have to think about,” said Casey Mills, the venue’s director of marketing.
Ally Salort
The show opened with a set from Ally Salort, an emerging artist from New Jersey. Salort’s lyric-focused alternative pop is infused with R&B and has garnered a buzz since releasing her debut EP, “Change of Plans” in 2025. “Her performance leans warm, emotionally grounded and very present in-room,” Nicole Garcia of RCA Records said in an email exchange with the Chronicle.
Salort performed a few of the songs that initially gained her popularity and gave the audience an opportunity to hear her newly released singles, “Finish Line” and “I’ve Never Met Her.” In Saturday’s performance of her 2024 single, “Deeper Meaning,” the arena lit up with flashlights, mimicking the sparkling black dress she wore on stage.
Daniel Seavey
Following Salort’s performance, Daniel Seavey took to the stage to perform a set using his abilities as a multi-instrumentalist. He played the guitar, drums, bass and electric cello and created songs with a looper pedal.
As a former member of the popular boy band Why Don’t We, Seavey is no stranger to interacting with his audience. He frequently referenced his love for visiting Utah and shouted out Swig, for the dirty Dr. Pepper he drank earlier that day. He performed his hit songs “The Older You Get” and “Sleeping With The Lights On” from his 2025 album “Second Wind,” all while getting close to fans on the front row to sing with them.
Charlie Puth
For the main act, Puth performed nineteen songs, mostly from his newest album. “If you don’t know it, it’s okay, just pretend you do,” he told the audience.
Puth also performed older fan-favorites, like “Attention” and “How Long” from his 2018 album “Voicenotes,” along with “We Don’t Talk Anymore” and “One Call Away” from his 2016 debut album, “Nine Track Mind.” Puth said music is like a time capsule to him and that he is always excited to perform older songs. He also encouraged the audience to express their emotions and any fellow musicians to continue performing.
The instrumentals were an important element to the show. During his performance of “Home,” Puth said was reaching a “flow state,” and asked the audience if he could play his piano for fun.
The show closed out with an emotional and stripped-down performance of “See You Again,” from the “Furious 7” soundtrack, and “Changes.” Puth told his fans to remember the love they have for anyone they have lost. He will continue to perform on his Whatever’s Clever! World Tour until November.
