Ute swimmers topple TCU

Ute seniors Jonathan Larsen and Sterling Richards both took top honors in two individual events to lead the U men’s swimming team (3-1 overall, 1-1 MWC) to a 129-114 victory over TCU, while the women won eight of 13 events to maintain a perfect conference record (4-0, 5-1 overall).

“TCU gave us everything we could handle,” U head coach Michael Litzinger said. “It was a great meet, and it will be really fun to see how things turn out at the conference meet.”

Larsen won the 50 free and the 100 free as junior David Maasberg placed second in both events, and Richards took the 100-meter and 300-meter events.

The men also claimed wins in the 400 free and 400 medley relays. George Evans won the 200 freestyle, and junior Jeremy Clark took second in the 1,000 free and 500 free.

“Our senior men continued to do what they have done for us the last four years, especially Jonathan Larsen and Sterling Richards, and we’re happy to send them off with a win,” Litzinger said.

Junior diver Kelsey Patterson led the charge for the women’s team by taking first on the 100-meter and 300-meter events. Junior Rachael Curci won the 500 and 1,000 free, and Alison McInturff added a first in the 200 free and a second in the 100 free. Amber Walter won the 50 free, and Marissa Martin won the 20 back.

Separate teams took both first and second for the Utes in the 400 medley relay.

The women’s team will host Colorado State at the Ute Natatorium on Saturday at 5 p.m.
