Editor:
I’m writing in response to Chris Bellamy’s column (“Where’s the ‘Big Love?’,” April 3) that I happened to read over breakfast.
First, I’d like to say that I agree with Bellamy 100 percent. Why anyone would protest such a great show is beyond me, but what I do know is that there’s no reason for it. Let me explain why.
I am a minority on this campus, and I can’t even count anymore how many times I have been offended by the entertainment industry (for instance, how most-if not all-minorities in horror films die). However, I would never consider raising hell over any one of those instances.
Now, I could understand if the show flat-out insulted the LDS Church, but it doesn’t. Besides, how do you think the Catholic Church felt about “Dogma?” Don’t think the pope was happy with that, yet I didn’t hear any bellyaching.
I guess the point to all this is that everyone, every race, every creed and every religion, gets its moment in the spotlight. The way you handle that moment determines whether or not it’ll be the best of times or the worst of times.
So lighten up, LDS Church. This, along with most things in life, shall pass.
