Bargain books

By Ana Breton

With the price of textbooks at an all-time high, students are bound to find a refreshing surprise in the ongoing book sale held by the Marriott Library.

More than 6,000 books are available at the sale, ranging from foreign language guides to management textbooks.

Hardcover books are on sale for $1, while paperbacks are being sold for 50 cents. Even though the book sale has been going on almost every day for the last 10 years, few students have taken advantage of the opportunity.

Staff members at the duplication desk, where the sale is located, estimated that, on average, only about 20 to 30 students every day browse through the books on sale.

Because books featured in the sale are either duplicates of materials in the library collection or given through donations, there is a chance students can find textbooks needed for their classes.

“(Students) can save money on needed materials for classes and bargain recreational reading here,” said Ted Kachi, a library specialist.

The book sale is on the third floor of the Marriott Library, by the entrance. Its hours are parallel to library business hours, which are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to midnight; Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to midnight.

Money from sales goes into the library budget for ongoing programs and acquisitions.
