Editor: In regards to Aishatu Yusuf’s letter (“We have plenty of reason to be upset,” Nov. 17), I sit amazed. According to Yusuf, Cameron Sheya has been awarded a blanket of privilege, is catered to and has blinded himself to issues of race, all because he is a white Christian male. Wow. Sheya is actually third-generation Lebanese. His family believes in assimilation, but must still undergo strip searches at airports. The blanket of privilege Yusuf refers to must be the one the feds forgot to give Sheya. As for being catered to, I’m guessing you’ve all received your financial aid; almost everyone has. Sheya is still waiting for his. You know, they cater to you when you check “white” on your application. Brown, white, black–one doesn’t have to be white to be racist, just blind. Open your eyes, grow a thicker skin and show tolerance to everyone.
